In this session we’ll conduct an overview, and in-depth items, in regards to Form I-9 such as: do you have to insert ‘N/A’ in various blocks?, the differences in the fillable version versus the paper copy; how to and who can make corrections to the form; how the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division can assist you via their hotline number and other ‘in the weeds’ areas that will have even the most seasoned I-9 professionals saying, “I didn’t know that”! We’ll then discuss E-Verify, Form I-9’s companion, the free web-based service administered by USCIS and SSA that allows enrolled employers to electronically verify the employment eligibility of their new hires. From the federal perspective, E-Verify is voluntary for most users although mandatory, in some form or fashion, in over 20 states and for a host of federal contractors. We’ll review recent enhancements, when’s the earliest you can create a case in E-Verify, how you can check your ‘own’ work eligibility (myE-Verify) along with some advance good to know tips.
